Employee theft: what would you do?

By Annie Waite, North American Editor of the Internal Comms Hub, Melcrum

Annie Waite

Q: There's a problem of employee theft in your firm and you need to do something about it, fast. To alert employees to the issue, and the consequences of such behavior, which of the below do you do first:

  • Set up a complex system of CCTV and hidden mics to capture the culprits?
  • Introduce a confidential hotline for employees to anonymously report suspected thieves?
  • Arrange for managers to meet with their teams to reiterate the penalties of theft?
  • Bring in the police to deploy some scare tactics?

Vote in this week's poll (see right) and see what others have chosen so far.

P.S. I mentioned I'd feedback on last week's poll Q results. We asked, what effect has the economic downturn had on your communication function so far?

  • While 28% of you haven't had to tighten your budgets yet, 31% of you reckon you've been vital in reassuring and engaging worried employees.
  • 18% of you plan to ride out the storm by doing "business as usual".
  • Meanwhile, an unlucky 23% of you have had the unenviable task of communicating layoffs.

If there's a Q you want us to pose as a poll Q to your peers and Melcrum's blog readers, please let us know your suggestions here.
