Are you putting enough effort into going green?

By Annie Waite, North American Editor of the Internal Comms Hub, MelcrumAnnie Waite

A survey by Genesys to coincide with Earth Day (marked earlier this week)   has shown a pretty steep rise in the number of virtual meetings taking place. Respondents answered "Yes" to the following statements:

  • "My company has taken meaningful steps toward more green behavior since 2007" (56%).
  • "Companies, rather than employees, should lead in executing and promoting green workplace behaviors" (70%).
  • "My employer has issued companywide policies to reduce travel, or asked managers to monitor travel needs" (62%).

It also found that 87% of workplace meetings with people outside the office, and 40% of meetings with people inside, are conducted by phone and web conference.

Whether we're having more virtual meetings because we all just can't get enough of hanging out in Second Life, or if it's due to tightening purse strings for travel budgets, there's no denying it's a trend that's better, at least on the surface, for the environment.

So take this week's poll below and let us know about your company's green credentials - are you guilty of "greenwashing" your efforts, or do you instead "come up smelling of roses" - for all the right reasons? Let us know.
