Dutch businesses, virtual worlds and IC?

A new report by Dutch think tank EPN [apparently] suggests around a third of Dutch businesses are involved in virtual worlds, with around 60% of those citing improved internal communication as a benefit.

However, I say "apparently suggests" because the report has not been translated into English and there's no indication that it will be. Virtual Worlds News reports some of the stats but they don't entirely make sense. So, here's a challenge for anyone reading who is Dutch or can speak the language – what does this report really say?!

I had a look at the report (and indeed, speak dutch :) )
I think there are some things lost in translation here. Most importantly, this is a 'quick-n-dirty' emailresearch done with the 100 top companies in the netherlands. Of those, 36 actually responded. Of *those* 36, 8 say they are involved, and 7 are planning on becoming involved.

That sounds a bit different then a third of all dutch business, doesnt it? ;)

Furthermore, the improved internal communications is cited as a *potential* benefit, by 80% of *all* respondent, i.e. including the 60% that are not or will not become involved in virtual worlds.
In other words, the results are totally meaningless.

To be fair, the organization behind this is serious, and this was meant as a pre-research, to see if there is a point in doing full research.

Hi Stefan, thanks for taking a look at this! I did think at the time that it all seemed slightly non-sensical but it's good to know exactly what it said. 15 out of 100 is not what the initial article (about the report) suggested.

In fact, most of the positive data around virtual worlds is pretty misleading or requires a lot more investigation.

I wonder if we'll see the full research piece?
