Destination – Chicago Please
One of my favorite websites of all is kayak.com. It’s the best for finding flights. I love the way you get to watch as it searches through all the discount ticket websites as well as the airline sites. It then produces this very impressive listing of all flight options – well organized and comprehensive. In a weird way, kayak.com was the inspiration for our upcoming Strategic Communication Management Summit, being held September 24-26 in Chicago. Okay – stay with me…I’ll make the connection for you by the end of this posting.
Roz, our conference producer and I talked at length about what theme or focus we wanted for this year’s conference. We thought about concentrating on social media but not all companies are there yet. Engagement was a major contender as was communication planning and measurement. But when we thought about each in isolation we realized that our community of communication professionals tackle all of these topics everyday in their roles! So we needed to put together a conference that mirrored a senior-level communicator’s role. We set out to find a speaking platform that would resonate with communicators. And who better than to talk social media, engagement, planning and measurement than communicators themselves – sharing their stories of innovation and lessons learned.
Well I am happy to report we achieved this lofty goal. Motorola, Sun Microsystems, GE, Pitney Bowes, EDS are just a few of the companies speaking at our Summit. We also wanted to round out the program with experts who lead the field in internal communication. Roger D’Aprix of ROI Communication is one of our keynote speakers and David Grossman, of dg&a and Michael Rudnick, of Watson Wyatt are the interactive workshop leaders.
Okay, so you’re asking, how did a travel site inspire a senior-level strategic communication conference? We took their approach – we considered the criteria. Our search produced the strongest program of its kind – well organized and comprehensive.
See you in Chicago! And if you need a flight www.kayak.com can help.
