"Internal Communicator" is world's most-desired job, survey finds
Internal comms beats rock star and footballer to top spot.
According to a new study released today by research company, Rumclem, internal communications has now become the field that most young people claim to want to work in when they're adults.
Research, undertaken earlier this year with 4,000 youngsters across the globe, revealed a seachange in the professions that youngsters cite as their dream jobs.
While "Internal Communicator" came top of the list, the popular professions that kids of previous generations aspired to, such as footballer, or rock star, have now plummeted to the nether regions of the most-desired jobs list.
Corporate responsibility issues
It's thought the reasons for this turnaround in children's aspirations is the relatively recent heightened awareness and interest in "trendy" green issues, as opposed to the hedonistic, capitalist drive of recent decades past.
High-profile issues such as the Fairtrade movement, and climate-change awareness movies like Al Gore's An Inconvenient Truth, are filtering into the minds of youngsters and as a result, the "softer" side of the business world is where their career-planning efforts are being targeted.
Top 10 most-desired jobs
1. Internal Communicator
2. Politician
3. Dentist
4. Waste technician
5. Alligator wrangler
6. Showjumper
7. Roadie
8. Childminder
9. Taxidermist
10. Lecturer
Other surprizing results
Almost three quarters (69%) of the 8-15 year olds questioned cited "Internal Communicator" within their top three jobs, while a staggering half of those children chose "Politics" as a career they'd like to explore.

Robin,
An interesting and solid piece of research. Very encouraging.
It supports my decision to curtail my rock star career and decline the offer to captain Barcelona FC... to concentrate on this blessed internal communications career.
Brilliant.

How fascinating! I was talking to my 17-year-old nephew on Sunday evening about how his school year was going, universities he wanted to apply for (the following year), etc. He was asking my opinion as to which school would provide him with the best foundation for an exciting career as an internal communicator! Alas, being in the non-top-10 ranked trade of public relations practitioner, I was unable to provide a credible answer. Not wanting to be a totally disappointing aunt, though, I promised to make inquiries on his behalf to career-rocketing internal comms colleagues and friends.
(The marketers must be salivating at the hitherto untapped possibilities!)
