Free podcast music!

I've just been editing an article on podcast planning for the Internal Comms Hub website and one of the suggestions included within it was to visit the Podsafe Music Network in order to find some suitable intro music to spice up your corporate podcast.

When planning our podcast series at Melcrum, Podcastswe went to all the trouble of commissioning a dedicated selection of intros from a couple of music industry pros, but if you want to track down a wide selection of musical offerings for your podcast, the Podsafe Music Network might just come up with the goods that are right for your company.

Or perhaps there are budding musicians reading this blog who'd be willing to offer their musical services for corporate podcasts?

I completely agree with the idea of having your own music for your podcast. Consider it the audio expression of your brand.

I had a piece of music created for our corporate podcast so that it is distinctive. Consider how you respond to music jingles for example associated with Intel. It is an audio reminder of the company.

It is important to use podsafe music to ensure that you keep within the digital rights requirements of your podcast.

Some people are happy to use music and pay royalties - for example some corporate podcasts use the music associated with their advertising campaign. The downside however is that that music may bring up other associations for people if it is particularly well known which may not be what you want.

There are many sites that offer royalty free music which is inexpensive to purchase. The downside of this is the fact that the music is not owned by you and many other people may be using the music for their own podcasts or audio products.

A third option is to purchase music that has a licence - often this is available on may of the royalty free sites. In this case you are paying to have exclusive use of the music.

As we have moved into the arena of creating corporate podcasts for clients and audio information products, we have now appointed a musician to our team to compose bespoke music to fit our clients requirements taking into account the audience, content and impact we want the podcast to have.

This is a new and exciting area and can help you bring your brand to life through your corporate podcast and a great opportunity for musicians.

Thanks for your reply - guess there might be a whole raft of court cases to come about copyright infringement on corporate podcasts. I wonder which major label will be first in on the act then?!
