Red Nose Day does social media (and Melcrum does doughnuts)
This year’s Red Nose Day, AKA “The Big One: Red Lead”, is making use of an extensive social media campaign to engage more of the public in its fund raising drive.
Besides all the normal tele stuff, the fund raising innovations include pages on social networking sites, Bebo, where visitors to the Red Nose page can design their own Comic Relief home page and MySpace, which gives visitors to its Red Nose homepage the chance to tell everyone else what they’ve been up to and also play its special Red Nose Day game.
Also linking up with Comic Relief for the day is Moblog, the mobile phone camera posting website, which has set up a special page to get people to send in photos of the zany antics they’ve been getting up to.
And speaking of those zany antics…
Since we ‘borrowed’ the red nose from Comic Relief to be part of our corporate logo, we at Melcrum felt we had to do our bit, and in true style, we did it by stuffing our faces in a sponsored doughnut-eating 'sprint' race and an 'endurance' event (eat as many big doughnuts as you can without licking your lips).
The endurance event was won by Tracy Greve (right, sitting) who managed to outlast erstwhile opponent Claudia Whitcombe.
In the highly charged sprint race, events sales bloke Peter Jones (right), managed to cram down eight mini-chocs in 45 second to beat his nearest opponent (me, on the left, mid-bite) by a clear 2 doughnuts.
Altogether the races raised £32 for Comic Relief, and a great time was had by all.

And after the photos, the video!

In the spirit of social media and Red Nose Day, if we get 10 comments to this post, Melcrum will double the £32 raised (that's over $100 total). Come on bloggers...help us out.

C'mon guys - we may not be able to manage £40 million, but a few more postings and another £32 is theirs...

So not everyone will be interested in blogging about red nose day but I'm sure lots of people will have a go at playing this game:

How about you have a go and post your high score on here. We only need a few more comments for Rob to double the money for comic relief...!

Rubbish, I got just 2! Is it any excuse that I'm using a laptop mousepad?!

Had more luck the second time with 9 red noses saved!

So 42 would count as quite a high score then? I seem to have found my calling, although I'm not sure how much need there really is for a Red Nose Rescuer...

Wow Vicky, that is seriously impressive! I only managed 3 the first time, 13 the second. It's getting a little addictive though.......
