Melcrum in the Telegraph

Last Thursday the Telegraph posted an article featuring Melcrum's Rob Crumby and further data and analysis from our social media survey.

It's well worth a read (even if we do say so ourselves!).

Author Robert Miller also spoke with IBM's Philippe Borremans, who presented one of the many excellent sessions at last week's Social Media Forum in London.

An interesting point lies at the end of the article, with Miller stating that RSS is only used by 6.6 percent of UK web users. I'm not sure on the UK figures at the time, but in 2005, Forrester research stated only 2 percent of US users were using RSS.

This figure is still bandied about (I think Scoble also quoted it back in September 2006) and to see it put at 6.6 percent in the UK (one would assume it's higher still in the US now), is encouraging. Unsurprising, but encouraging.

I'd hope with "web feeds" as opposed to "RSS" now becoming the common term and Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 becoming more widespread at home if not in the office, this figure should - should- rise pretty quickly in the next few months, even if it turns out that the majority aren't aware that they're actually using RSS.
