Seeing what is really going on with Second Life

Further to Alex's Second Life post a few days ago, Neville Hobson has just pointed out that the virtual world just passed the three million member mark. How interesting slash important that turns out to be is debatable as his post admits.

On IBM's participation, having had a chance to speak to one of IBM's senior guys, Irving Wladawsky-Berger, about Second Life, you get the feeling they are still at the toe-dipping stage. They really, really want this to be the best thing since html, but they just aren't quite prepared to say so.

More than anything, they think it could be the best internal collaboration/communication tool ever invented - yet.

An interesting place to go if you want to know more about what IBM is thinking about Second Life is eightbar, an open blog being run by Ian Hughes, a Consulting IT Specialist, specializing in emerging technologies.

He records how the subject of Second Life has recently been broached at the annual world-scale bigwig shindig, Davos.

There's also a good Second Life article on the Independent site from the 26th Jan, here.
